Morbidelli: “Anything can happen – as we saw”

Championship leader’s gap slashed to nine points after a crash at Misano

Franco Morbidelli (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) had a 29 point lead ahead of his second home round of the year at Misano, but after race day dawned wet and conditions changed, the standings got a shake up once again. The Italian had escaped in the lead in the torrential conditions, before crashing out of contention and being forced to watch from the sidelines as key rival Tom Lüthi (CarXpert Interwetten) fought for the win.

Lüthi took second in the end, meaning a 20 point gain – and Morbidelli’s advantage back down to only nine points. But the Italian will be pushing to take back some ground at Aragon.

Franco Morbidelli, DNF: “Unfortunately at this race I was fast all weekend in the dry but in the wet today I made a mistake. Now I have remain focused and push for a good result at the next race in Aragon because I still lead the championship by nine points. We know we are a strong team so now we need to keep pushing, anything can happen as we saw today.”
