Front row seat: McPhee takes third in Malaysia

British Talent Team rider takes third to set himself up for a showdown at Sepang

John McPhee has been on the pace all weekend at Sepang International Circuit and qualifying was the best of the bunch as the Brit took a front row start ready for the Malaysian GP.

McPhee set a 2:12.816 as his fastest effort, one of only two riders to get within a second of the record-breaking pole lap, and will be pushing to get away with the front group from the off. Then it will be a fight for the podium and points, with the Scot currently seventh in the standings but gunning to end the season further up.

The lightweight class head out to battle at 12:00 (GMT +8). And if it applies in your timezone, don't forget the clocks go back!

John McPhee, P3: "I’m really happy, I need to say thanks to my team for working so hard because this weekend we improved a bit and made a good step. I’m happy, in all the sessions we’ve been fast, also alone, and in qualifying we knew that the front three or four was possible. For the race it’s difficult to say. My laptime on the race tyre was the same as the soft tyre, so I’m feeling confident and I think it’s going to be a long race. 18 laps in this heat isn’t going to be easy. But I’m feeling good and looking forward to the race. We’ll fight from the first laps. We know slipstream here plays a big part but like I say I was happy to do the laptime alone, so let’s just try and enjoy the race."
