LCR Honda Castrol’s Cal Crutchlow suffered a nasty highside in the first part of qualifying at the HJC Helmets Grand Prix de France, with his bike launching him over the handle bars when exiting Turn 9.
The Argentina GP winner landed heavily on his right side, with the bike then hitting him as it slid along the track. Attended to immediately by the trackside medics and marshals, Crutchlow gave a thumbs up to the crowd as he was stretchered away, before being transported to the medical centre. The three-time Grand Prix winner was then taken to Centre Hospitalier du Mans for further scans, and thankfully, no fractures or major injuries were detected.
LCR Honda Team Principle Lucio Cecchinello gave an update on Crutchlow’s condition, with his participation in Sunday’s race still yet to be decided.
“First of all, the most important thing is that after examination both at the Le Mans circuit medical centre and here at the hospital in Le Mans, Cal has suffered no fractures or major injuries. However, before Cal can be discharged from the hospital, he must undergo a series of blood tests and get their results. We will await the results of these tests and reports before making any further decisions, and will endeavour to keep the media and fans updated as soon as we have more information.”
