The numbers behind the Catalan GP podium

Lorenzo, Marquez and Rossi created history in Barcelona, but what are the figures behind one of the most successful rostrums in history?

Jorge Lorenzo (Ducati Team), Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) and Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) were the three riders to stand on the podium at the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya, creating the most successful rostrum in MotoGP™ history.

14 – Record number of premier class World Championship titles

Lorenzo (3), Marquez (4) and Rossi (7) set a new record for the most premier class titles on a podium, beating their own record that was set in Aragon 2016 (12).

20 – Record number of MotoGP™ World Championship titles

Rossi (9), Marquez (6) and Lorenzo (5) made it the most successful podium in terms of total titles won in the MotoGP™ era. In addition, the only other riders to have won the MotoGP™ World Championship since 2002 are Nicky Hayden and Casey Stoner, such has been the domination of these three riders.

However, this isn’t the most world title wins on a podium in the history of the Championship, with Phil Read and Giacomo Agostini having 22 titles between them on the 1975 500cc Brno podium.

173 – Record number of premier class wins

The previous record held for the greatest number of premier class wins on a single podium at Misano in 2016, when Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda Team), Rossi and Lorenzo stood on the rostrum with a combined 160 wins.

The 2018 Catalan GP eclipsed this, with Marquez swapping with Pedrosa to create a total of 173 victories in the premier class on a single podium.

205 –  Record number of pole positions

The Italian actually has the least amount of pole positions between the three with 65. Meanwhile, Lorenzo has just one more than his former teammate with 66 and Marquez has 74 across all classes.

246 – Record number of Grand Prix wins

Another record they broke - which was also held from the Aragon 2016 race result - was the total number of Grand Prix wins to ever stand on the podium. Rossi has the most out of the three with 115 in total, Lorenzo is now up to 67 and Marquez has 64 overall.

488 – Number of podiums

In terms of podiums, ‘The Doctor’ is the most successful Grand Prix rider of all time, accumulating 231 across all classes, 195 in the premier class. Lorenzo has 150 podium finishes across all classes and is the joint-second most successful premier class rider in terms of podiums with 112, alongside compatriot Pedrosa. Marquez has 107 in total and is eighth overall in the premier class, one behind Stoner (69) with 68.
