Rossi: “We found something that improved the performance”

It was another productive day for the nine-time World Champion in Sepang

Valentino Rossi (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) ended Day 2 at the Sepang Test in P6 on the timesheets, finishing 0.728 off teammate Maverick Viñales as both riders had another seemingly positive day of testing.

“We continued to work because we have some other items to improve and also today was not so bad,” explained Rossi. “We found something that improved the performance, and, I think, we made a good job. In the end, my pace was always quite strong so yeah, it’s quite a positive second day. We still have something for tomorrow so we will try to continue to work and we will see our situation at the end of the three days.”

51 laps were completed by the soon-to-be 40-year-old, as he and Yamaha got to work testing things in all areas of the 2019 YZR-M1: “We have some small things in all the areas – electronics, engine, chassis, we always try to improve the grip and to have a good feeling with the used tyre. For me, we worked well.”

And one of the big talking points with the new Yamaha is said engine, with Viñales' late time attack a good sign that they’re heading in the right direction.

“We are on the same direction and looking at the lap time, I think that Maverick feels quite good with the bike. This, for us, is important because it means the bike has good potential.”
