Marini, Rodrigo top private Jerez test times

Day 1 saw the Italian and Argentine go fastest as 22 intermediate and lightweight class riders continue their 2019 preparations

Eight Moto2™ and four Moto3™ teams are currently at the Circuito de Jerez – Angel Nieto taking part in a private test ahead of the ever-nearing Qatar GP.

And at the end of the first day in southern Spain, SKY Racing Team VR46’s Luca Marini topped the times in the intermediate class with a 1:41.827, beating second quickest Sam Lowes (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2) by just 0.042 seconds. Third quickest was the returning Tom Luthi (Dynavolt Intact GP), less than a tenth off Lowes, with Alex Marquez (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) fourth, Jorge Navarro (Speed Up Racing) fifth and EG 0,0 Marc VDS’ new recruit Xavi Vierge sixth.

P7 was held by Marcel Schrotter (Dynavolt Intact GP), the German finishing ahead of Andrea Locatelli (Italtrans Racing Team), with fellow Italians Nicolo Bulega (SKY Racing Team VR46) and Fabio Di Giannantonio (Speed Up Racing) completing the top ten.

In Moto3™, it was Kommerling Gresini Moto3’s Gabriel Rodrigo who ended the first day fastest with a 1:47.254. Three tenths off the Argentine was Dennis Foggia (SKY Racing Team VR46), with Estrella Galicia 0,0 teammates Alonso Lopez and Sergio Garcia fourth and fifth respectively.

The 22 Moto2™ and Moto3™ riders will complete another day of testing on Tuesday, before the official three-day test begins in Jerez on 20th, 21st and 22nd February.
