Excitement for the start of the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup continues to build and on Day 2 of the official Valencia Test, the riders were able to get a taste of the one flying lap qualifying format, as well as undergoing a race simulation.
The E-Pole practice went very well and for it, each rider will get three laps: an out-lap, one flying lap, then the in-lap. Every rider took part and the top three were Hector Garzo (Tech 3 E-Racing), Avintia Esponsorama Racing’s Eric Granado and Niki Tuuli (Ajo MotoE). But on the overall lap time charts from Day 2, it was Bradley Smith (One Energy Racing) who topped the times with a 1:40.290, 0.094 ahead of Day 1’s fastest man Garzo.
Smith was on Aprilia Racing Team Gresini MotoGP™ testing duty on Monday and will be again on Wednesday, so it was an important day for the British rider to have more time on the Energica Ego Corsa machine. Mattia Casadei (Ongetta SIC58 Squadra Corse) was third fastest, with Tuuli and Granado completing the top five in Valencia – 0.484 covering them.
After highsiding at Turn 11 on Day 1, Randy de Puniet (LCR E-Team) suffered an identical crash on Day 2. The Frenchman injured his ankle on Monday and went to hospital on Tuesday to treat a cut to his elbow.
The MotoE™ riders will be back on track for their third and final day of testing on Wednesday as a full-race simulation, based on the grid from E-Pole, will take place.
