Viñales: "It’s a very positive day"

Sector one was the Spaniard’s main focus point ahead of Friday’s action, now it’s sector two…

During the HJC Helmets Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland pre-event Press Conference, Maverick Viñales (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) pinpointed sector one as an area where he and Yamaha needed to concentrate on.

However, after Friday’s track action, sector one didn’t seem to be a problem for the Dutch GP race winner. Viñales was third fastest through the opening split behind Jack Miller (Pramac Racing) and Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) after what he described as a “very positive day”, but the Yamaha rider is lacking speed in sector two.

“I think it’s very positive today,” reflected Viñales, who was over two tenths slower than Marquez in sector two on Friday. “Even if I didn’t feel that great on the bike because the grip level was down, I think our lap times were quite competitive. We’ve worked on race setup, trying to understand the way to go in the first laps. We tried the tyres and we know less or more the feelings for tomorrow so we can concentrate a lot on riding style, trying to improve especially sector two.”

The number 12 rider ended the day P4, 0.488 off Marquez’ 1:20.705. Can Viñales close the gap to the number one spot during FP3 at the Sachsenring ahead of qualifying? Find out if those sector two improvements have been made at 09:55 local time on Saturday morning (GMT+2).
