50 up: more records for Marquez

The reigning World Champion added to his Saturday records with yet more stunning stats coming the Spaniard's way

Having secured a record-equalling premier class pole position on Saturday, Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) made more history and equalled more records on Sunday. The Monster Energy Grand Prix České republiky witnessed great action, in which the 26-year-old Spaniard was able to come out on top of. So, what records has he matched?

Marquez made it a 50th MotoGP™ win, only the fourth rider to achieve this number in the premier class of World Championship racing. He is the first Spaniard to achieve this, with Valentino Rossi (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) currently with the most premier class wins on 89. Marquez’ next target is fellow five-time premier class Champion, Michael Doohan, who won 54 Grand Prix in his time – all of which were with Honda.

But in terms of the overall picture of wins, the reigning World Champion took his 76th of his career, equalling the late great Mike Hailwood. Marquez will soon want to be challenging his fellow countryman, Angel Nieto, who has 90 overall, whilst Valentino Rossi and Giacomo Agostini lie ahead after that.

There’s a pleasing circularity to Marquez equalling Hailwood at Brno, with Hailwood taking four wins at Brno – albeit on the old street circuit. Marquez’ win today puts him just two wins behind Hailwood’s total at Brno across all classes, which stands at six. Hailwood won the first three premier class races at Brno, too.

How many more records will Marquez break in the 2019 MotoGP™ World Championship season?
