Biographie

Edgar Pons, son of Sito Pons, got his start racing motocross before debuting in the CEV championship in Spain. During the 2013 season, his debut in CEV Moto2™ class, he had a best finish of seventh in Aragon on his way to ending the year in the top ten. For the 2014 season Pons managed to end the CEV season in third overall, taking two wins along the way. Alongside his CEV duties, he also made his World Championship debut in Jerez, where he fought to 25th after starting 34th. The following year saw Edgar Pons remain with the Pons team in the CEV and emerge as a clear title favourite, finishing in the top two in the first six races. He also made three wildcard appearances in the World Championship before replacing Mika Kallio full time in the Italtrans Racing team from Aragon on. Having won the CEV Moto2™ European championship in 2015, finishing on the podium at each round, he moved full time to the World Championship with the Paginas Amarillas HP 40 team in 2016, where he remained for another season in 2017. However, having struggled in 2017, the Spaniard moved back to the European Moto2™ Championship in CEV to rediscover his form. Despite four victories in 2018 he narrowly missed out on the title but was the dominant force in 2019, claiming a second title with seven victories and having finished off the podium just twice. Now in 2020, Pons is back on the world stage, with the Gresini Moto2™ squad, desperate to carry his CEV form into the World Championship.
