Marquez in control in Brno

2014 Moto3™ world champion tops the timesheets in FP1

It was Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS rider Alex Marquez who went quickest in the first practice session for Moto2™ at the Automotodrom Brno, as the Spaniard rides a wave of confidence after a difficult early part of the season. Marquez, who fought for the podium at the track in 2015 as a rookie in the class, headed Jonas Folger (Dynavolt Intact GP) and Takaaki Nakagami (Honda Team Asia) in the top 3, leading the majority of the session and getting back on top for the first time since Silverstone last year in the wet.

Danny Kent (Leopard Racing) was P4 in an impressive session, ahead of Forward Racing’s Lorenzo Baldassari as the Italian completed the top five. Marquez’ teammate Franco Morbidelli was P6, with reigning champion Johann Zarco (Ajo Motorsport) in P7. His championship rival Sam Lowes (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2) was just behind the Frenchman, with the top ten completed by Simone Corsi (Speed Up Racing) and Tom Luthi (Garage Plus Interwetten). P2 man in the title fight Alex Rins (Paginas Amarillas HP 40) was P17 in a tough first session.
