Meregalli on Sepang: “We’ve not had any issues”

Yamaha Team Director talks good information and good decisions

Team Director of Movistar Yamaha MotoGP, Massimo Meregalli, talked to motogp.com following the recent three day Official Test at Sepang International Circuit to give an update on the progress in the team for both Maverick Viñales and Valentino Rossi. The Italian, who says the test has been issue free, says a key help to the outfit in 2017 preparations has been the feedback of both riders – who more often than not choose the same components and go the same direction.

Massimo Meregalli: “We are really satisfied. The way the development is going is good, and smooth. We’ve never had any issues apart from the weather. We’re going to leave the track with good information and some good decisions, the only question mark is probably the new frame because here we had two different ones and most likely we will decide in Phillip Island which we will use for the start of the season. One important thing is that almost every time, Viñales and Rossi choose the same items and same direction. That helps us to proceed with development quicker. I’m not surprised about Maverick’s speed anymore after what happened in Valencia.

“Next, Phillip Island is a completely different track and most good things you find there are more useful for the race there so we’ll work on setup for that – and Michelin will have some tyres to test there, because it’s very demanding on the tyres. For us it’s important to leave Sepang with good information and having made good decisions.”
