Lorenzo: “The worst scenario to try to make a step”

Difficult day for the 3-time MotoGP™ World Champion sees the number 99 start P12 in Australia

Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) had a tough day at Phillip Island, but the 2010, 2012 and 2015 World Champion did make it through the graduate to Q2, along with LCR Honda rider Cal Crutchlow, after both Lorenzo and teammate Valentino Rossi were left in P19 and P20 after Day 1 in Australia. Q2 saw the Mallorcan struggle with the conditions and temperature, set to line up in P12 for Sunday, and with Rossi back in P15 it has been a tough weekend so far for the Movistar Yamaha MotoGP squad. Weather may improve on Sunday however, with Lorenzo ready to make a swift start and get back in with the frontrunners.

Jorge Lorenzo (P12): “We‘ve reached the second qualifying luckily, because some of the riders put in the mixed tyres when the track wasn‘t ready yet. That‘s why we were able to finish in second and get through to Q2, but in that session with the slicks was probably the worst scenario to try to make the step I needed in these difficult and dangerous conditions. We‘ve not been lucky with the weather; too much rain, then no rain, there was wind and it‘s been very cold. Considering all negative circumstances today it was not possible for me to be fast.”
