Viñales: “We arrive in Assen extra motivated”

Championship leader ready to push at the ‘Cathedral’

Maverick Viñales (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) had a difficult race day in Barcelona, crossing the line in tenth as some of his key Championship rivals locked out the podium. With the points gap now seven at the top, the heat is on as the paddock heads for the TT Circuit Assen – where Viñales says he “needs” to be on the podium. Following a more positive test post-Catalan GP, the stage seems set.

His record at the track makes for good reading ahead of the event: two wins in the lightweight class and a Moto2™ podium prefaced two MotoGP™ top tens for the rider from Roses, and he says it should also be a good circuit for the Yamaha – which has proven true as the Japanese manufacturer has taken eight wins at the track since the MotoGP™ era began.

Maverick Viñales: “TT Assen is a good circuit for the YZR-M1 and also for my riding style it‘s quite good. I've been doing really good races there in the past. I like it and I always enjoy riding here. After the difficult race in Catalunya we arrive in Assen extra motivated because we really need to be on the podium and take as many points as possible. We can‘t afford to struggle in the next races, so for sure we will give our 100%.”
