Michele Pirro: update following the Italian’s crash

An incident at Turn 1 saw the Ducati Team test rider go down and the session Red Flagged, but he escaped serious injury

Ducati Test Team rider Michele Pirro suffered a big crash in FP2 at the Gran Premio d’Italia Oakley, losing control at the end of the long main straight at Mugello and highsiding into the gravel. The session was Red Flagged and the Italian received medical attention trackside.

Pirro was confirmed as conscious and the Italian has now been transferred via helicopter to Ospedale Careggi in nearby Florence.

Dr Angel Charte, Medical Director, gave an udpate on the Ducati rider following the incident and first checks. The Ducati Team later tweeted to confirm that the Italian has concussion and had dislocated his shoulder, adding that Pirro will remain in hospital overnight.

Pirro also posted on Facebook, saying, "I played a joker today! A bit battered and bruised but I'm tough."
