Viñales and Rossi chase Marquez in FP1

The Yamahas hot on the tail of the reigning Champion, who was quickest as action opened at Assen

Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) was quickest in FP1 at the Motul TT Assen, but the number 93 had some close company in the form of Movistar Yamaha MotoGP duo Maverick Viñales and Valentino Rossi - with both looking for the first Yamaha win since the TT Circuit Assen played host last season. 2016 winner at the track Jack Miller (Alma Pramac Racing) was fourth quickest and top Ducati, just ahead of Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team).

Bradley Smith (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) suffered a run off mid-session, before some late drama hit as Italian and Catalan GP winner Jorge Lorenzo (Ducati Team) took a tumble - rider ok.
