Katoh untouchable in 250 second free practice

Daijiro Katoh once again confirmed his status as clear favourite for the 250cc Grand Prix of Japan when he set the fastest time with ease in the second free practice session. Telefonica Movistar Honda rider Katoh set his quickest time on lap 11 of 18, and was around a second and a half quicker than the closest of his temporaries throughout the session. 125cc World Champion Roberto Locatelli finally cut the difference down to 0.848 seconds in the dying stages on his MS Eros Ramazotti Racing Aprilia, whilst Fonsi Nieto also turned in a good late lap on the Valencia Circuit Aspar Team Aprilia. Naoki Matsudo was fourth quickest on the Petronas Sprinta Yamaha TVK, whilst Marco Melandri completes the top five fastest riders on the MS Aprilia Racing machine.

Melandri´s team-mate Tetsuya Harada fell and rejoined the session on his spare bike, but was unable to produce anything above 12th fastest. There were two other fallers in Lorenzo Lanzi and wildcard Choujun Kameya. Both riders are thought to be okay, although Kameya has been taken to hospital for an x-ray on his back.
