Youichi Ui quickest in first 125 free practice

Youichi Ui marked Derbi territory this morning in the first free practice session for the 125 class. The Japanese rider set the fastest lap on his Spanish factory machine with a quickest time of 1´50.419. His best was 0.470 seconds quicker than nearest rival Max Sabbatani on the Aprilia.

Few riders were willing to push too hard on a damp track which suffered from heavy rainfall yesterday and is yet to dry out despite sunny conditions this morning. However, Ui and Sabbatani were joined at the top of the time sheets by Nobby Ueda, Lucio Cecchinello and young Spaniard Toni Elías, who is sure to thrill the crowds after his confidence boosting performance in South Africa.

Stefano Perugini was the only rider to suffer from the wet conditions, running wide into the gravel track before returning to the track only to fall from his Italjet on the final corner.
