Azuma on fire in 125 second free practice

Azuma on fire in 125 second free practice

Masao Azuma cleared the morning dew from the Jerez circuit with a quick lap in the second free practice session which was quicker than Max Sabbatani´s provisional pole position set in yesterday´s afternoon sunshine. Many of the riders set unusually quick laps for this time of day during an interesting opening 20 minutes, using the middle section of the session to find the settings for their machines and turning in some fast laps in at the end.

Lucio Cecchinello brushed off any fitness worries raised after he left the track yesterday in an ambulance by posting the second quickest time in the practice session. Youichi Ui and Mirko Giansanti were just fractions of a second slower though and the unpredictable 125 class is set for another interesting qualifying session this afternoon.

Max Sabbatani will be defending provisional pole despite sliding off his bike during this morning´s session. It was the Italian´s second fall in two days and came just as he was looking to step up his lap times. Manuel Poggiali and Angel Nieto Jr. both suffered set backs in their preparations as they nudged into each other and headed side by side into the gravel. Both riders managed to stay on their bikes though and will be ready for this afternoon´s all-important qualifying session.
