Capirossi quickest but Roberts consistent in 500 warm up

Capirossi quickest but Roberts consistent in 500 warm up

Loris Capirossi maintained his habit of setting the quickest lap in practice and qualifying sessions on his Honda but it was Kenny Roberts who maintained the most consistent lap times in the 500 class warm up this morning as the riders made final preparations for this afternoon´s race.

Roberts pushed the Suzuki through four quick laps at the end of the session and could have taken the fastest lap if he weren´t held up by Vd Goorbergh after the chequered flag had been waved.

Pole position holder Valentino Rossi decided not to push too hard and spent the session making final changes to his bike setting, whilst Norick Abe – who lines up third on the grid – also took it relatively steady.

Noriyuki Haga was fifth fastest on the Yamaha and will be looking to at least score points after failing to finish the race in the first two rounds. Haga´s Japanese compatriot Shinya Nakano fell from his Yamaha early in the session with some parts yet to dry out from the morning dew. The sun is shining though and everything is nicely set up for an entertaining race.
