Repsol YPF Honda Saturday press release

Repsol YPF Honda Saturday press release

The fight for the best grid positions was once again very fierce and thrilling, a common sight in the 500 class of this Grand Prix season. After today´s final practice session, the first ten are qualified within only one second, with Biaggi on top of the classification. Both Team Repsol YPF Honda riders will start from third row on the grid. Alex Crivillé, who had a harmless crash halfway through the session, is in a slightly better position than his teammate and will start the race from nineth position. Tohru Ukawa is still working to find a set-up that suits his riding style, and had to settle for eleventh place.

Alex Crivillé, 9th - 1’39.275
22 laps, 95 Km
´What a pity that I crashed. I lost the front end, and I was lucky I didn´t get hurt. I lost valuable practice time due to this incident, and I had to go out on my spare bike which isn´t set up as well as my number one machine that is basically ready for the race. Due to all this, I couldn´t improve my lap times in the end, and even though I was able to defend eighth place for most of the second part of the session, Capirossi was quicker in the end, and now I have to start from nineth position. But I still believe that I can do a good race, my lap times were fast and consistent in the morning, and even this afternoon, my times were quite good.´

Tohru Ukawa, 11th - 1’39.973
26 laps, 112 Km
´Today we continued to work on the settings of my bike, but I still didn´t find a set-up that allows me to ride fast and consistently. We still have a few things to try, some variations of the suspension settings and different tyres, which we will do during the warm up. Things didn´t go well in the morning, but we improved in the afternoon and I was able to put in a few flying laps, even though I´m still far behind the first positions. I made a lot of pit stops for small changes, so I didn´t really have a chance to find to my rhythm with a string of laps. But even though I have to start from further back on the grid, I´m still confident I can do a good race if we can improve the behaviour of the bike.´
