Manuel Poggiali on form in first practice session

Manuel Poggiali sets out this weekend to prove that his success in Le Mans was not a flash in the pan, and by setting the fastest time in the first free practice session this morning he did just that. The San Marino rider got off to a steady start, and was the slowest rider in the field for the early stages of the session. However, he gradually improved his lap times and set fast times as the clock counted down.

Another rider to build on the confidence of an impressive performance in France was Toni Elias, who finished third in Le Mans. The Spaniard was the second fastest of this morning´s session and set consistent lap times throughout the session.

The surprise package from this morning´s action was wildcard rider Andrea Ballerini, third fastest behind Elias as the less experienced members of the class show seasoned favourites such as Youichi Ui and Masao Azuma the way.

Ui made his customary slow start to the session before putting in some fast laps to finish fourth quickest. Meanwhile home rider Gianluigi Scalvini set quick laps throughout the session despite recovering from a recent operation on his broken collarbone which has left a huge scar and is still heavily stitched.
