Mixed fortunes for Lucchi in 250 practice

Mixed fortunes for Lucchi in 250 practice

Marcellino Lucchi set the fastest time of the second practice session in the 250 category today but crashed out as Aprilia machines dominated the time sheets. The Italian veteran highsided on a right hand bend just after setting a fast lap, flipping over and coming down hard on his hip. The 44 year old provisional pole position holder has contusions of the hip and a lumbar muscle, and will undergo a medical before confirming whether he is fit to ride this afternoon or not.

Lucchi´s time, set on just his sixth lap, was enough to maintain his position at the top of the time sheets until the end of the session, as team-mates Tetsuya Harada, Jeremy McWilliams, Randy De Puniet, Roberto Locatelli and Klaus Nohles all lapped quicker than Championship leader Daijiro Katoh.

Katoh was the only rider not on an Italian factory machine to make the top ten, with Roberto Rolfo, Alex Debon and Franco Battaini also lapping well for Aprilia. The Japanese Honda rider´s team-mate Emilio Alzamora had a session to forget, posting the 21st fastest time overall, whilst Marco Melandri will be looking to improve this afternoon after seeing himself in 16th position on the time sheets at the end of this morning’s action.
