Warm up sessions completed in dry conditions

A morning shower failed to hinder preparations for the Gran Premi Marlboro de Catalunya as riders of all three classes were able to complete at least some laps on slick tyres. First to take to the track were the 125 riders, several of whom opted for wet tyres as the morning sun dried out the damp track. Pole holder Lucio Cecchinello set the quickest time, with Nobby Ueda and Toni Elias also looking good.

As the 250 warm-up got underway the track surface was in improved condition and Daijiro Katoh took the opportunity to stamp his authority on the class ahead of the race with some fast laps. The Japanese rider´s team-mate Emilio Alzamora was also on form in front of his home crowd, although neither were able to get any where near their qualifying times from yesterday.

By the time the 500 class took their bow in front of the huge Catalan crowd the sun was beating down and Sete Gibernau thrilled his fans by beating his qualifying time by 0.3 seconds. Alex Barros was the quickest rider of the session, with Valentino Rossi third fastest.
