Repsol YPF Honda team

In fine weather conditions, the first qualifying session for the Dutch TT in Holland took place on the Assen circuit. Both the Repsol YPF Honda riders reached the second row of the grid, with their positions likely to be confirmed tomorrow, as rain has been forecasted for the region. Alex Crivillé took seventh place in a session with no irregularities, whereas his team-mate Tohru Ukawa finished in eighth position after a minor crash from which he walked away unscathed. Both riders fully concentrated on the set-up work of their bikes and preferred not to use especially soft tyres just to put in extra fast lap times.

Tohru Ukawa 8º - 2’03.15019 laps, 115 Km

´I´m fine, fortunately I didn´t hurt myself. The crash was my mistake. This afternoon, we made some changes on the set-up of my bike, and they worked out very well. This encouraged me to take some risks, and I tried to improve my times lap after lap. And then, in a righthand corner, I went in just a bit too hot and lost the front. Fortunately I wasn´t very fast, and the motorcycle is hardly damaged at all. With the set-up changes we´ve made, I felt very comfortable riding, which allowed me to improve my times and to set a fast and consistent pace. In the morning, we had a lot of chatter and the rear of the motorcycle was sliding too much, but in the afternoon, the bike worked very well.´

Alex Crivillé 7º - 2’02.92124 laps, 145 Km

´Practice today went quite well, and we concentrated on small changes on the set-up of my bike. We are still a bit far away from the times of the front row, but my bike worked well and I think my provisional position on the grid is fair. If it doesn´t rain tomorrow, we have to push a bit harder in order to at least defend this position. I felt pretty good on the bike today, but we still have to improve in order to be able to keep a constant pace and to make sure of a good race. We didn´t use soft tyres to put in a fast time, we prefer to focus on the best possible set-up so I can go consistently fast throughout the race.´
