Elias leads the way in first 125 qualifying session

Toni Elias continued his recent run of form by taking provisional pole for the 125cc race at Donington Park on the first day of action at the Cinzano British Grand Prix. The 18 year old Spaniard, who won the last round at Assen a week ago, took top spot on his last lap of this afternoon´s first qualifying session after exchanging places at the top of the time sheets with Youichi Ui and Nobby Ueda.

Ueda eventually slipped down to eighth place on the grid after an off-track excursion which gave Manuel Poggiali and Masao Azuma the chance to make it onto the front row in third and fourth positions respectively alongside Ui in second. Joining Ueda on the provisional second row are Stefano Perugini, Jaroslav Hules and Pablo Nieto.

Jarno Muller, Marco Petrini and Lucio Cecchinello all crashed, with Muller breaking his collarbone and ruling himself out of the rest of the weekend´s action. Petrini did emerge unhurt although news on Cecchinello is not yet available.
