Biaggi hangs on to pole at damp Donington

Max Biaggi will start the Cinzano British Grand Prix from pole position on Sunday after holding on to his provisional slot throughout a rain affected final qualifying session at Donington Park this afternoon. With the track still damp from a shower during this morning´s 250 free practice which continued throughout the lunch break, none of the riders were able to improve their best times from yesterday until minutes from the end, when Norick Abe, Tohru Ukawa and Shinya Nakano, who dislodged Jurgen vd Goorbergh from the front row, bettered their previous effort. Abe and Ukawa, however, could not improve on 15th and 16th position respectively.

Alex Barros and Loris Capirossi hold their places on the front row in between Biaggi and Nakano, whilst vd Goorbergh heads a second row which also features Roberts, Gibernau and Jacque in that order.

The rest of the grid remains unchanged, meaning Valentino Rossi will start from 11th position. The Italian attempted a fast lap right at the end of the session but was held up by Jason Vincent on the penultimate corner and was unable to improve his time.
