Ui revived at his talisman circuit and back in the 125cc title race

Japanese rider Youichi Ui yesterday revived his form at the Donington Park circuit, a venue where he has regularly starred in the past. The Derbi man´s confidence had reached a low ebb after poor results in the last five races, and he had reached a critical point in his title quest. He finally broke his bad run at the circuit where he had previously taken victory just last year.

Ui, who lost any hopes of glory in the 2000 season at the penultimate race in Motegi, started this year with a second and a first, but from three poles in the following races he managed a haul of just five points. Combined with falls in Jerez, Catalunya and, most recently, Assen, Ui had only one choice when he arrived on the British Isles: to walk away with the winner´s trophy.

Now, the L&M Derbi rider can look towards the second half of the season with renewed confidence, although the two 18 year olds who lead the Championship, Poggiali and Elías, will not give anything away easily. That much was made clear yesterday at the Melbourne Loop when the Spaniard pulled off a risky overtaking manoeuvre to outsmart the San Marino teenager. Whatever happens, the two youngsters now know that the veteran is most definitely back.
