Alex Criville is a doubt for the race after two hefty crashes in qualifying

Spanish rider Alex Criville is a serious doubt for tomorrow´s Cinzano Grand Prix Motorrad Deutschland after having crashed twice during the afternoon´s second qualifying session. The two falls came in exactly the same spot, but under very different circumstances. In the first fall, the Spaniard came together with a flying Loris Capirossi, who had the racing line, and after having smashed against the side of the Italian´s bike he went to ground. His bike was severely damaged in this instance, having cart wheeled across the gravel trap, however he was able to walk away unscathed despite it looking severe.

The second crash was more severe still though and was a real spectacular affair. This time Criville went to ground without any external help and as a result ended up in Sachsenring´s trackside hospital. At first the ex-World Champion was left dazed and confused, and couldn´t even remember the first fall, but after a few minutes rest, he regained his memory. As a result the doctors have decided to take him in to the medical centre in Chemnitz to undergo a scan to check that everything is okay.

Despite the internal head injuries which were attended to first of all, he also received numerous cuts on his face and his brow, and also a severe bruising of his left index finger. On coming round, Criville asked for a classification sheet from the practice, but he himself, lying in 15th on the grid, has a reduced chance of starting the race tomorrow.
