Youngsters dominate 125cc category at halfway stage

Manuel Poggiali and Toni Elías are neck and neck going into the summer break in the 125cc category. The two 18 year olds have emerged as the main stars of the first half of the season in the sport´s minor class. Since taking his first victory in France, Gilera rider Poggiali has taken four further podium positions. Elías, meanwhile, who scored his first ever podium in Le Mans, has taken a victory and three second places, bringing him to within 3 points of the San Marino rider.

The 31 points clocked up by Poggiali in the first two races have been vital to his cause because Elías failed to score points. The two youngsters are on top form whilst veterans Azuma, Cecchinello and Ui have all mixed great success with spectacular failure, and are not showing the consistency hended to challenge for the title.

Once more the 125cc class has proven to be the most equal of all the three categories this season, with Poggiali having scored 50 points less than Rossi in 500cc and 61 less than Katoh in 250cc.
