Elias back from break in familiar fashion

Elias back from break in familiar fashion

In what is now becoming a familiar sight, it was once again the young Spaniard Toni Elias setting the pace at the Gauloises Ceske Republiky Grand Prix, as he made the fastest time in the 125cc first free practice. The Telefonica Movistar Junior Team rider, who has shown magnificent progression this season, and who now lies just three points behind category leader Manuel Poggiali, proved once again that his form of recent races was no flash in the pan, and he is now in with a real chance of lifting the trophy come early November.

It was on his last lap of the session, after the chequered flag had gone out for the end of practice, that Toni Elias made his time of 2´10.388, and took the lead away from a flying Gabor Talmacsi. The Hungarian rider came out looking refreshed after the summer break on board his Racing Service Team´s Honda, and as he spent most of the 45 minute long practice in second place behind Elias, he will hope that he can keep up this kind of speed throughout the weekend. Talmacsi was eventually pushed out to being third quickest, as FCC-TSR Honda rider Noboru Ueda made a fast last lap to sit 0.112 seconds behind Elias´ bike.

Championship leader Manuel Poggiali who regularly makes better times in the latter practices, could only manage eighteenth position in the session, as other title contenders Lucio Cecchinello, Youichi Ui and Simone Sanna finished in 4th, 5th and 6th respectively. There was one faller in the session, the Matteoni Racing Honda of Alex de Angelis, who came out unscathed from his tumble.
