Cecchinello shows that he is a threat in 125cc

Lucio Cecchinello, the veteran Italian, this morning demonstrated that a pole position for provisional holder Youichi Ui is not a done deal. Cecchinello rode consistently quick this morning, constantly improving on his times, and even made it to within 0.03 of Roberto Locatelli circuit best in the 125cc category from 1999, beating yesterday´s pole time by over half a second. The rider-owner of the LCR Aprilia Team is currently in 7th place on the grid, but he made it very clear this morning that he intends to better that in this afternoon´s qualifiers.

It wasn´t a great session for the pole holder Youichi Ui, who languished down in 12th position on the timesheets. However because the Derbi team this weekend have been making changes to both the engine and the chassis they use, it is likely that this was more of a testing session of different set-ups, and we can expect to see him right back up there in the final qualifying session.

Toni Elias came closest to Cecchinello´s time, and behind him came the winner from the last round Simone Sanna. German Steve Jenkner made the fourth quickest time, with young Spaniard Angel Nieto Jr. There were no fallers in a session which will make the afternoon´s qualifying practice extremely interesting to watch.
