Valentino Rossi : ´It is a very good start, especially if I consider how we started the weekend here in Portugal last year. In 2000 we had a lot of troubles, we were not sure how to set-up the machine.

Also when we came here for the winter test in February we worked hard for two days and we didn´t find good settings and finally I crashed and I was one second slower than Capirossi e Biaggi. For this reason I expected the weekend to be difficult when I arrived here.

For sure the test we did at Valencia last week was very useful. That track is similar to this one and we found a good setting for the suspensions and that´s working very well here.

Anyway it remains a difficult circuit. It´s very bumpy and that obliges you to have soft suspensions. But there are also many places where you are braking very hard, and that requires harder settings. Now I´m very satisfied with the machine in the fast corners, tomorrow we have to improve on the slower corners and to solve some doubts about tires.

Tomorrow I believe other riders will improve their lap times, and my time of today will probably not be enough to keep pole position but I hope I´ll be able to do a little bit better. It´s important to start the race from the front row, and very important to get a good start.´
