Special day for MotoGP as Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone taken for a ride by Randy Mamola

It was a great occasion for MotoGP this afternoon as Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone and his Croatian wife Slavica were thrilled by Randy Mamola as they each took turns in being his passenger on the Yamaha two-seater bike. Ecclestone, who has taken a break in Portugal to experience the thrills of Motorcycle Grand Prix racing, jumped at the chance to ride with MotoGP´s most colourful character. The four-times championship runner-up took the couple on a two-lap joyride, which included a few wheelies around the back straight.

First up was Slavica Ecclestone, who seemed very confident and excited about her journey ahead. According to Mamola it took a while for her to relax into the turns, but the second lap he could ride almost as normal. The Croatian was delighted when she got down from the bike, and stayed on to help her husband on to the seat behind Randy.

After the 5 minute pleasure ride the septuagenarian took off his helmet to the awaiting masse of photographers and journalists, and described the sensation as ´Incredible!´ He admitted, ´It´s one of the greatest things I´ve done in my life, especially because I´ve done it with Randy Mamola.´ Asked about his thoughts of the MotoGP paddock these days, Ecclestone remarked, ´My opinions about motorcycling haven´t changed. It´s a great spectacle with some good people involved in it.´ Ecclestone himself was involved in motorbike racing in his more youthful days.
