The weather is fine at the moment, but it looks as though the forecast for more rain like yesterday afternoon could come true. As the teams put the finishing touches to their bikes, here is the latest news from the Valencia paddock.

> German rider Katja Poensgen celebrates her 25th birthday today. Yesterday evening Shell Advance Honda threw a party after their team dinner. First of all a ´charanga´ - a traditional Spanish travelling band which was playing around the circuit, went to the team´s hospitality to play for Katja. Later, one of her team members brought out her cake and she blew out the candles, spending over a minute thinking in silence about her wish. The party didn´t go on too late, with everyone needing a good night´s sleep before the race.

> The Ricardo Tormo Circuit welcomed a very important person into its midst today. Mr. Edouard Michelin, Chairman and CEO of the French tyre manufacturers and also great nephew of the original founder, came to survey the scene here in Valencia and took the opportunity to lap the track on the back of the Yamaha two-seat bike with Randy Mamola. Edouard Michelin took his post in June 1999 after being President and Chief of Operations in the United States and Chief of Production at the factory in Puy-en-Velay, France. He joined the company originally 1985.

> Young Spanish riders on board Aprilia 70 bikes will take part in the Formula de Campeones Bancaja immediately after the 500 race this afternoon. It´s a great opportunity for the youngsters to share the track with their heroes, in a tournament that is aimed towards helping them learn the skills required to make it at the top level, and has already borne its fruits. Angel Rodriguez, rider in the World Championships with the Valencia Circuit Aspar team was a rider in this competition previously, as well as wild-card riders here Hector Faubel and Javier Fores who take part in the Spanish Championship.
