Ui takes pole for home race

Youichi Ui and Masao Azuma continued their excellent form this weekend to take pole position and third place respectively on the 125 grid for tomorrow´s race. Ui set a new pole record at the Motegi circuit, in a time of 1:58.603, breaking Roberto Locatelli´s best from last season by 0.221 seconds. The Japanese pair are joined on the front row by 18 year old duo Manuel Poggiali and Toni Elias in second and fourth place respectively after a crash strewn final qualifying session in which San Marino rider Poggiali´s pole attack was spoiled by a fast lap tumble in the dying minutes.

Lucio Cecchinello was all set for his twelfth front row start of the season until a late raid from Azuma which pushed him down to fifth place on the grid. Mirko Giansanti and Dani Pedrosa also flirted with the front row but will be satisfied with second row spots in sixth and seventh spot respectively between Cecchinello and Nobby Ueda.

Poggiali´s fall also brought down Jarda Hules, taking the crash total to nine thanks to spectacular efforts from Pablo Nieto (twice), Joan Olive, Angel Nieto Jr., Eric Bataille, Simone Sanna and Stefano Perugini.
