Usual suspects take to the front in 125

The top four in the current Championship standings in 125 also took the top four positions in this morning´s second free practice session at Motegi. The sun was shining as the riders took to the track, and the absence of clouds in the sky promises that it should be a fine day for the rest of the practice and qualifying sessions due to take place. Fastest in the 45 minute practice was San Marino rider Manuel Poggiali, whose main aim this weekend, will be to make up ground on Championship leader Toni Elias, who he trails in second place by just eight points.

Poggiali set a time of 1´59.223, and was the first to get under the 2 minute barrier mid-way through the session. He bettered Toni Elias´ second placed time by 0.206 seconds, and it had been a case of the two switching positions throughout the session. Pedrosa, who celebrated his first podium spot at Valencia last weekend, offered some resistance, taking over briefly at the top, before dropping to fifth place. Youichi Ui, third in the standings, also lead for a short period towards the end of the practice, he was the third rider under two minutes, and he eventually had to settle for third place ahead of Italian Lucio Cecchinello.

The battle for front row positions will be intense this afternoon, with conditions as they are and the competition for places enormous. It will be expected that these five will have a say in the composition of the top places, but Nieto Jr, Ueda, Brannetti and Sanna may have other ideas, these four finishing in the positions from sixth to ninth.
