Eighth podium of the year for Capirossi

Eighth podium of the year for Capirossi

Loris Capirossi and Alex Barros played a main part in the Australian Grand Prix, the fourteenth race of the season, which took place today at Phillip Island circuit. The two riders of the West Honda Pons were among the first positions in an extraordinary race, where the Italian Valentino Rossi became World Championship of the first category. Capirossi, after have been thirteenth, made an amazing progress to the third position. Barros was fourth after being the entire race in the first positions and lead the race during nine laps.

Loris Capirossi

´I made a bad start. With the deposit full of fuel, I was not confident about the front tyre, that gave me problems and I was delayed. From the sixth lap on, everything went better and I could catch the leading group, although I had more than a scare. I want to win a race and there is no way, although I do my best in all circuits. There are two races left, and I will not loose faith. I congratulate Valentino because he deserves the championship.´

Alex Barros

´I am not happy with the final result, but the bike worked perfectly. The race was very difficult with many overtaking and has been very exciting for the fans. I had a lot of fun, although there were some dangerous moments. At the end, I got touched by Biaggi and then lost all the options to fight for victory by losing some positions. I had hopes to get on the podium today, but we shown that we are competitive and I will keep this level.´

Sito Pons

´It´s been an extraordinary race, with many riders fighting for the first positions at their best. Capirossi made an exceptional recovery after loosing much time at the beginning and Barros was about to be on the podium after being in the lead during all the race. They both showed, once again, all his potential´.
