Aprilia 250 & 125

Aprilia 250 & 125

Katoh is a worthy Champion and deserved to take the World Championship at this second last GP of the 2001 season, as he was impossible to bet for riders and technicians of Aprilia. The constructor´s championship is still open, where Aprilia is 11 points behind and still has a chance at the last race in Rio de jenerio on November third. Macio Melandri too a discrete eleventh place due to his physical condition, defending the best he could his options for third place overall.

Tetsuya Harada (MS Aprilia Racing) #31Second in 43´37´380

«It was impossible to do more today, because I had chatter problems, the motorcycle was sliding a lot and didn´t turn the way it was suppose to. We paid the price with the set up compared with those who did have winter tests here. Congratulations to Katoh for the title, but the season isn´t finished yet and I hope to do better in Brazil than I did today.

Jeremy McWilliams (MS Aprilia Racing) #99Fifth in 43´58´354

«I had a bad start then after only eight to ten laps I ran into severe chatter problems, which got even worse as the race went on. At the end of the race I had to ride the 250 like a 500, sliding under acceleration. All in all a difficult race that I am not very happy about. I wanted at least a podium Finnish.

Marco «Macio» Melandri (MS Aprilia Racing) # 5Eleventh in 44´22´788

In the beginning of the race with a full fuel tank the front end bounced around and folded in after a few laps the situation improved but then I got tired, my hand was painful, and I didn´t have the strength to ride well. I hope that for the race in Brazil the fracture of the third metacarpal bone in my right hand will be better. I tried to re-pass Rolfo at the end, but after a slid, I realised that it would have been too risky. We are both fighting for third place overall, and even though third or fourth doesn´t make a big difference, I was fifth last year now I want to be third so hopeful I can be first next year. A cake on the starting grid, a podium at the end of the race: for Lucio Cecchinello, who turned 32 today, the day was very satisfying and the race tiring, but fun. Like this, the tough triple race expedition out of Europe is finishing on a high note. The season concludes with the last GP in Rio de Janeiro in 13 days time.

Locatelli & Battaini within the top, Rolfo crashes & gets up again, Nieto on the podium

Fonsi Nieto #10 ( Valencia Circuit Aspar Team) 3rd in 43´38»379Second podium for Fonsi Nieto, the nephew of the Spanish motorcycle Champion Angel Nieto. (13 times World Champion) who always gets more consistent.

«I´m really happy to repeat my result from Valencia even though that podium is unforgettable because it was my first and at my home GP. I managed to stay close to Harada for the entire race, he played a bit with me, but he has a better bike and more experience. It was hard to have Locatelli behind me as well, but I thank Aprilia and engineer Witteveen for the opportunity to getting me into the lime light and to get these results».

Roberto Locatelli #15 (MS Eros Ramazzotti Racing) 4th in 43´42»235Great performance of the 125 Champion whom also fought for the podium after difficulties half way through the championship, Locatelli found his way back to winning form.

«After a difficult practice sessions I am especially happy about my result, but at the same time it´s a bit disappointing to miss out on the podium by so little. Anyway, in the warm up this morning the bike was better than yesterday and for the race we improved it further».

Franco Battaini #21 (MS Eros Ramazzotti Racing) 6th in 44´08»851

This time, Battaini had the satisfaction to be the best privateer.

«A great race! And some more points for the championship, I am happy to day, even though I´m convinced that I could have done even better if practice had gone according to plan».

Roberto Rolfo #44 (Safilo Oxydo Race) 10th in 44´21»401Even riders that seem to be immune against human error, mess up every once in while. T
