Mick Doohan on another ´lucky guess´

Mick Doohan on another ´lucky guess´

Well it looks like I got lucky with my race prediction! Seriously though, Valentino Rossi works so hard on his consistency during races that when it comes to a circuit like this then you would be silly to put your money anywhere else. You can guarantee that the set-up of his bike is always going to be good, so as soon as he finds a good rhythm in the race he is pretty unstoppable.

Loris Capirossi had a good race but he needs to be much more consistent if he is going to challenge Rossi and win the last race of the season. I don´t know if it´s him or his bike, but at the moment he is nowhere near setting the fastest times lap after lap, and that is something you must be able to do if you are going to break from the rest of the field and win races. Meanwhile Biaggi crashed out again, which is not the best way to finish your season.

It was good to see Garry McCoy back on the podium. It hasn´t been the season he was after but he has had lots of bad luck and injuries so who knows where he might have finished up in different circumstances? He seems to be back on terms with his bike now though and growing in confidence with each race, so maybe we will see him pull something special out of the bag in Brazil. I´ve said this before but he must start to get more forward speed and less sideways if he is to convert his massive potential into a serious threat for people like Rossi.

Finally, my congratulations go out to Daijiro Katoh, who deservedly took the 250 title after dominating all season. He is obviously a huge talent and no doubt we will find out just how good he really is should he step up to the new MotoGP class as he is widely expected to do next year. He looks like the best of the latest crop of Japanese riders to come through, and I would expect him to fare somewhat better than the likes of Ukawa and Haga have done so far. I don´t think he can challenge Rossi in his first season, but nobody knows what to expect next year and maybe he will prove me wrong.
