Honda Nastro Azzurro

Brazilian Grand Prix.
Circuit of Rio.
Friday, November 1 2001.

First qualifyng session.
Weather: Sunny, 28° C.

Valentino Rossi ( 1st. ):´My provisional pole position is OK but it is partially due to a very strong effort I made at the end of practice by using a soft compound rear tyre. Before that I was down in eighth position. We still have a lot of work to do on machine settings for the race. The problems come from the fact that the track surface is very bumpy.I like the track very much and at Rio last year I had a very good race. I believe it was at this track that I started to ride the bike like a 500, so I have very good memories of the Rio track. But the surface has become so bumpy that it is now a big problem. The track is also very demanding on tyres because we are riding on the edge of the tyre for so long. Tomorrow we also have to check the tyre endurance performance for the race.I really hope it does not rain tomorrow, and especially not for the race on Saturday because it would be very difficult to race on this surface.´
