Criville says farewell to Honda at the same place he took the 500cc title for them

Alex Criville will tomorrow take part in his last 500 race as a Honda rider, at the same circuit he was crowned World 500cc Champion in 1999. The Spanish rider has had eight seasons at the heart of the official Honda 500cc team, after having been in the Honda Pons team for two years before that. With HRC, Criville has taken 14 race victories, one World title and has also been championship runner-up once. It was at Brno that the Catalan rider discovered that Honda would not be renewing his contract, and that tomorrow´s race would be his last as a racer for the Gold-Winged manufacturer.

Criville told of his sensations before his last race with Honda, ´I´ve got no real emotion as regards riding my last Grand Prix for the team I have spent most of my sporting career with. What can be taken as a certain however, is that I intend to do as well as possible and get a good result tomorrow. It would be nice to do well here, but the fact that it is my last race with HRC is no special motivation for me.´

The Spaniard reflected on the last eight seasons with the Repsol team, ´I am honestly very proud of everything I have done at Honda. Evidently there have been good and bad moments, emotional times and other very complicated ones, but I believe that we have always known what it takes to be the best. Clearly, the last two seasons have not developed as I would have liked, but I don´t think that now is the time to get caught up in such reflections.´

What Criville will be doing next year is still unknown, and he added, ´I want to end this chapter now and clear up my future; I would like to have everything decided by next week. The Aprilia option is there, and I like it, but nothing is near to being finalised yet.´
