Ui sets pole record as Poggiali crashes out in 125

Youichi Ui will start Saturday´s 125 race from pole position after setting a new record at the Nelson Piquet circuit towards the end of the final qualifying session as title rival Manuel Poggiali crashed out. The Japanese rider will be hoping for similar circumstances tomorrow, when he must win and hope Poggiali scores less than 3 points if he is to win the title. Andrea Ballerini will line up on the front row for the second time this season in what is only his second race after qualifying with the second fastest time ahead of Dani Pedrosa and Toni Elias.

Poggiali was unhurt as he fell with just over a minute of the session remaining, his best time up to that point enough for qualification in fifth place ahead of Lucio Cecchinello. Joan Olive made it a good day´s work for the Telefonica Movistar Junior Team, qualifying in seventh place to join colleagues Pedrosa and Elias on the front two rows. Jakub Smrz completes the second row in eighth.
