Alex Barros and Loris Capirossi were poised to finish on the podium on the Brazilian Grand Prix, sixteenth and last race of the season, which was held today at the Nelson Piquet circuit in Jacarepaguá. The rain forced the race to stop after four laps and make a new start for 20 laps. The weather conditions turned the last race of the year into a real lottery.

Alex Barros – 4th.

´I felt very well in the first part of the race and I was recovering positions quite comfortably. I was convinced I could get a great result that I could dedicate to the fans. On the contrary, in the second part I realized I could not do it well. At the beginning I touched Biaggi, but the problem was that we did not make a good selection of the tyres. I mounted the same as in Valencia, but they worked much better there. In fact, the race was a real lottery.´

Loris Capirossi - 5th.

´The race conditions were very bad and it was very difficult to ride like that. I chose mix tyres in the front and back and that was a mistake. Anyway, I think I’ve made a perfect race considering the material I had, and I am satisfied because after a very long season I am on the podium of the first three. I hoped to finish second, but I also knew it would be very difficult. Now I will rest and think about how to improve this result next year.´

Sito Pons

´I am very satisfied with the season we’ve made and I think we can consider it as a success. That is why I want to congratulate our riders and all the team, who did their best during all the year to achieve our objectives. Today’s race was a lottery and our rider made a good race even under those difficult and unusual conditions, where it was very difficult to be in the leading group.´

The Spot

The West Honda Pons team finished today in Brazil their best season since in 1990 when Sito Pons took the challenge of the main category in motorcycling. Loris Capirossi and Alex Barros, who will stay in the team next year, achieved the third and fourth position of the rider’s classification, and the Italian fought until the last lap for the runner-up position. The West Honda Pons team won the non-official teams classification, being the 500cc team that achieved more points during this season.
