Luis D`Antín preparing his team for MotoGP glory

Luis D`Antín preparing his team for MotoGP glory

Since the official announcement of Alex Crivillé's switch to the Yamaha team run by Luis D´Antín, the Spanish team boss has been able to start the year working to complete the infrastructure of a squad he hopes can achieve MotoGP glory in 2002. ´The signing of Alex has consolidated our position alongside the élite of the World Championship teams,´ explains D´Antin, who boasts the talents of Norick Abe as his second rider. ´In principal, the presence of Abe and Crivillé mean that our objective must be to win in every race. Evidently the results depend on many factors, but the initial priority is to fight for victories.´

The arrival of Crivillé to the team has also provoked a growth in the technical staff. ´I´m working to strengthen the squad from a technical point of view in order to satisfy the needs of my MotoGP riders. I think we will have a very competitive squad with the support of Yamaha, who will give me the same treatment they have done up to now.´

D´Antín is assured when questioned about the arrival of 4 stroke machines alongside 2 strokes this season. ´I think the title will be won by a 2 stroke bike because the 4 strokes will have teething problems even though they might be competitive at the start. The teams know the 2 stroke bikes perfectly and they know how to get the most out of them whilst the 4 strokes are still in the development phase. The 500cc machines could have a clear advantage although we´ll just have to wait to see if this is the case at the races.´

Norick Abe and Alex Crivillé will test their Yamaha YZR500 machines later this month.
