Suzuki gearing up for exciting new start with the 4 stroke XREO

Suzuki team staff and riders are already preparing in earnest for the dawn of the new season, even though their first scheduled test isn´t until February! Riders Kenny Roberts and Sete Gibernau will be joined by team boss Garry Taylor and several of the technical crew members on a plane to Japan on the 15th January as they head for Suzuki headquarters in Ryuyo, where they plan to wheel out the new 4 stroke XREO for the first time.

´We´re all very excited about the new machine and both Kenny and Sete are desperate to get out there and have a proper look at it,´ explained Taylor. ´We´re planning to do a few laps at the factory circuit, just to give the riders a bit of a shake down after the holidays and to get them familiar with the bike before the first proper tests next month.´

The team will head to Sepang on the 5th February and then on to Phillip Island two weeks later, but they have plenty to keep them busy in the meantime. ´We have loads of work to do on the trucks so that is taking up a lot of time at the moment and there are so many other new things to take care of. For instance, whereas the 2 stroke bikes can be started simply by pushing them along, the 4 strokes need motorised starters which spin the back wheel up to the right speed. They all need to be constructed and tested so the workshop is a very busy place´

Despite the hard work involved in such a fresh new project, Taylor believes his team are up to the challenge. ´This is an exciting new venture for all of us and is just the motivation we needed. My team has a new focus now and we are all looking forward to working very hard to make it a success.´
