The West Honda Pons team gets into gear for 2002

Six members of the West Honda Pons will next wednesday travel to Japan to join in the assembly of the team´s new bikes at the HRC headquarters. This is the Japanese manufacturer´s normal practice for its satellite teams. On behalf of the squad managed by Sito Pons, both chief mechanics for Pons´s NSR500s, Santi Mulero and Ramon Forcada will travel alongside two mechanics for each rider.

The engineers will participate directly in the kitting of the bikes which will be used by Loris Capirossi and Alex Barros in the MotoGP World Championship, in order for them to become familiar with their set-up. Once this process has been completed, the bikes and the riders will move on to Malaysia where Honda teams will have their first preseason tests at the Sepang circuit on the 21st, 22nd and 23rd of this month. At the Malaysian track the team´s telemetry specialists will join those mechanics who travelled to Japan.

After the tests in Sepang, the Honda Pons team will return home to test at the Circuit de Catalunya before the official IRTA testing sessions begin in February. In terms of the riders, Loris Capirossi spent Christmas holidaying in Mexico, while Alex Barros was in Orlando along with his family.
