Alex Debon hoping to confirm his participation in the 250 Championship

Alex Debon is looking to sign a contract over the course of the next few days, which would guarantee his place in the 2002 World Championships. The Castellon-born rider had an agreement previously with Jeff Hardwick to develop the new Honda RS250R-W, but economic problems for the Australian´s set-up meant that the Spaniard was left without a ride for this coming season.

Debon had been happy with the new project and even got to ride the new bike at Suzuka at the end of last year. However the problems with the Hardwick Racing team, which have also thrown German rider Katja Poensgen´s participation up in the air, surprised the Spaniard, who confessed to having been through some tough times recently.

´The truth is when the news surfaced that the Hardwick team wouldn´t be continuing with the project, we were all caught by surprise. A few weeks ago everything was clear. We had agreed on a schedule and had assurances about the future, as well as the backing of a factory. Suddenly everything fell apart and I was left without a team. There have been some truly hard momenys but it was necessary to react and to look for another fast solution.´

The rider´s representatives are finalizing a deal with a team which will guarantee his presence in the 2002 250cc World Championships. ´I hope that soon we will be able to make publice the name and the details of my new team. In fact,´ added Debon, ´if everything goes as planned, I will begin testing at the next IRTA session in Valencia in the middle of February´.
