Alex Debón confirms 250 ride with Campetella

Alex Debón has put an end to speculation over his Grand Prix future after reaching an agreement with Italian team Campetella. The Spanish rider will ride an Aprilia 250 in 2002 alongside Frenchman Randy de Puniet.

Debón will be relieved to sign on the dotted line after weeks of uncertainty: 'After ending up without a team and facing the possibility of missing out on the season altogether, I'm happy with how things have developed and how quickly the problem has been solved,' he told motograndprix.com.

Having originally signed to develop the new Honda RS250R within the Hardwick Racing team before it ceased to exist, Debon now has a new focus: 'The positive thing to have come from this winter is that I am now highly motivated, physically prepared and my morale is high.'

Debón will travel to Barcelona to meet with his manager and confirm the final details of of the contract before meeting up with his new team for the first time next week: 'I haven't met the team yet,' he explained. 'I know that they had Boscoscuro and Lanzi last year, who didn't really get great results despite having good bikes. If everything goes according to plan, I hope to have the bike ready for the first IRTA test in Valencia. I have an advantage in that I know the Aprilia very well and they shouldn't take too long to adapt. Although they are not official bikes there seems to be a good feeling between the team and Aprilia Racing Director Jan Witteween. I believe we will have competitive motorcycles.'
