Andrea Ballerini signs for TSR

TSR have announced their Grand Prix squad for 2002, with 28 year-old Italian Andrea Ballerini replacing Nobby Ueda in the British-based team. Ballerini has made sporadic World Championship appearances since making his debut in 1995, and he will take to the TSR Honda 125cc machine after impressive wildcard appearances in Italy and Brazil last season, where he qualified on the front row on both occasions. He also finished second overall in the 125cc European Championship in 2001, losing the title by just one point.

'I am very pleased to deliver this news,' said Masa Fujii, Chairman/Owner of TSR. 'In recent years we at TSR have been working together from Japan and Britain and I am happy with the way our team was going forward so I decided to leave everything in the hands of our staff in Britain. Unfortunately I have not met Andrea yet but from what I have heard I reckon we will be able to bring you exciting races this season. We have a passion to this sport and have a promising future as well.'

Managing Director and Team Manager Ian Edwards was equally enthusiastic. 'I am pleased we have finally been able to release our plans for 2002. It has taken us longer than expected as I was not prepared to confirm our plans until all areas of the team were complete. Now that is done, the hard work starts. Obviously, we have a tough time ahead as we are starting so late, but now we can assemble the team and start testing so we can be ready for Suzuka. I am also pleased with our choice of rider and I know we can produce a successful season together.'
